Who We Are
York Center Church of the Brethren is a congregation of Christian believers grounded in the New Testament and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We're a small but mighty group committed to our faith and to each other. We study scripture together, believing that their message comes alive in the study and work of community. Jesus is our model for living, and we believe in making a faith witness through peaceful dialogue and loving persuasion, respecting individual conscience and decision. We strive to be responsible citizens of the global community by living simply and intentionally, and we share Christ's promise of peace and justice through worship, study, fellowship and service.
We are part of a Protestant denomination called the Church of the Brethren, a movement that began 300 years ago in Germany by people convinced of Jesus' call to living our faith peacefully, simply, together, and focused on community.
Our congregation has been closely connected with our beloved church camp here in Illinois, Camp Emmaus, for many years.
In addition to our regular Sunday worship, one special ritual in our life together is Love Feast, a service that remembers Jesus’ last supper with his disciples. Love Feast happens twice each year and includes communion, a full meal together
and foot-washing. Every time we have the opportunity to wash someone's feet, we're reminded of our call to be servants to one another in the world.
We’re very active in our community; learn more about our connections on our Outreach page.
